Katey Brunini
The artist, Katey Brunini, was raised in a small beach community just north of San Diego. Long days in the surf and sand nurtured her appreciation for the power and grace of nature.
Katey graduated from University of California at Santa Barbara at age twenty with a Bachelor of Arts in History, and a minor in Art History. Shortly thereafter, she left for Europe and North Africa. In Egypt, she would discover her passion…jewelry. A seminar in haute couture design in London would follow, then the Gemological Institute of America, various apprenticeships with master jewelers, and finally four years as the custom designer for J. Jessops and Sons eight stores in Southern California.
Katey’s gypsy lifestyle led her to explore different cultures in Europe, the Middle East ,Belgium, Israel and the Canary Islands. In Italy, Katey went on to study the craft of the Sicilian master goldsmiths whose high-karat gold work and ancient techniques are all but forgotten. The volcanic landscapes of Sicily continue to inspire her raw yet refined style.
